How do I return a faulty item or an item damaged during delivery?

Returning items bought in-store or by Click & Collect

If an item is faulty it's best to return it to the store or garage from where it was purchased/collected, as this is the quickest way to receive your refund. However, you are able to take it to any Halfords store

Don’t forget your proof of purchase. We may need to verify the serial number on your receipt against the serial number on the item being returned.

If you're unable to return a faulty item to your local store pleasecontact us via Live Chat - just click the "Chat with an Expert" button in the bottom-right corner.

Returning faulty or damaged Home Delivery items

We offer a collection service for home delivery items which require a minimum of two working days' notice. Please contact us via Live Chat to discuss this first and our colleagues can then make the necessary arrangements - just look for the "Chat with an Expert" button in the bottom-right corner.

If you find it easier to return the item to the store you can also do this.

Please note

  • Someone will need to be available to sign at the time of collection.
  • Collections can only be made Monday - Friday (excluding bank holidays).
  • Collection will take place between 9 am and 6 pm (we're afraid exact times can't be given).
  • Please re-pack the item(s) securely for courier transport. (All cycles must be unbuilt and boxed for return.)
  • We'll aim to refund you as soon as possible but will refund your account within 28 days.

Faulty items will be examined either by ourselves or the manufacturer.

Consumer protection legislation says that items must be as described, fit for purpose and of satisfactory quality. If you buy a product online and it's found to be faulty within 30 days, you're entitled to ask for a full refund of the faulty product.

If a fault occurs after the initial 30 days, we are entitled to repair and/or replace that item. Please note for some products repairs will have to be carried out by the manufacturer.

If it cannot be repaired or replaced, then you may be entitled to a refund. Advice about your legal rights is available from your local Citizens' Advice Bureau or Trading Standards office.

Refurbished products

If you’ve bought a refurbished product and it is found to be faulty after 30 days, it will be covered by a manufacturer’s warranty. Please visit our refurbished products advice page for more information.
