What is a tyre disposal fee?
We charge £3 per tyre purchased to responsibly dispose of your old tyres, including VAT.
What happens to the tyres you dispose of?
We partner with a leading UK tyre collector and processor. They process and repurpose tyres to recycle them and reuse them in a variety of products. These include artificial turf infill, playground rubber mulch, carpet underlay and road surfacing.
You used to dispose of tyres in this way and the cost was included in the price. Why are you charging separately for it now?
We have always charged for the disposal service. We have now updated the way we break down the total price to show you the cost of disposal.
Do I get a discount with my Halfords Motoring Club membership?
Yes. The 5% discount received with HMC premium membership will apply to your tyre disposal fee.
Can I buy tyres without paying the fee?
- Yes. If you decide you do not want to pay the fee, you will need to take your old tyres with you and repurpose or suitably dispose of them, for example, at a Household Recycling Centre. Please note that councils may charge a fee of around £3 per tyre
- For a walk-in appointment, the fee will be removed before you are invoiced
- We automatically add the fee for online bookings. When our fitter is changing your tyres, please let them know you want to keep your tyres and we will process a refund of the fee
