What is a car warranty?

You will not need to buy a warranty if your car is still covered by its manufacturer warranty. All new cars typically come with a warranty that usually lasts for the first 3 or more years of a vehicle’s life. During that time, the cost of repairing any faults (other than those associated with general maintenance) will be covered by the manufacturer.

As soon as the manufacturer warranty expires, you can purchase an extended warranty to protect yourself from having to foot the bill for future repair costs.

While cars have evolved to become more reliable, they have also become increasingly complex. Fault diagnosis can be a timely process and once identified, the repairs can prove time consuming and costly. Parts can be expensive and sometimes difficult to find, while labour costs can often exceed £200/hour.

Buying an extended warranty is a way to avoid these potential costs, providing the means to pay for any diagnosis, repairs and parts required to get a vehicle back on the road.
