How to maximise your e-bike range

Different e-bikes have different range capacities for one charge and there are some things you can do to get the most out of your e-bike battery.

When you’re choosing your bike it’s important to do your battery research before you buy. Smaller commuter bikes such as the Carrera Crosscity have an average range of 30 miles. A mountain bike like the Carrera Vengeance has around 40 miles and more expensive bikes will have larger batteries that offer increased range for example.

When you’re on the bike, keep an eye on the mode you’re cycling in. Each e-bike refers to this differently but they are usually called turbo, tour or eco mode. Cycling in turbo mode gets you to your destination quicker but uses more battery. Whereas using eco mode means you have to pedal more but you will have an increased range.

If you’re using your e-bike to commute then having a charger at work is very useful. Or, you can carry an additional battery if you’re on a longer trip.

You’ll also find that the colder the weather, the less range your battery will be able to offer. In winter, it’s a good idea to store the battery inside at room temperature. Also, be aware that your weight, luggage weight, tyre pressure and how hilly your route is will all impact the battery range.

Remember to keep your battery charged and your e-bike in good shape to get the most out of your battery range.
