What you need to know about your Halfords car service
How long will my vehicle service take?
Most services will take a few hours, but it depends on the service package you select. We don’t offer service slots, instead, you’ll need to leave your vehicle at the Halfords Autocentre at either 8:30am or 11:30am on the day of your service. We'll call you when your car is ready to collect.
Can I book a service and MOT together?
Yes! Our combined MOT and service packages are a convenient way to keep your car running smoothly. You’ll also save up to £39.85 when you book an MOT and service together. You can check out our range of MOT and service packages and book online.
Why MOT and service together?
Booking an MOT and service together makes it much less likely that you’ll forget either of them. We’ll carry out your MOT and service during the same appointment, which means you’ll only have to make one trip, not two. You’ll also save up to £39.85 when you book an MOT and service together.
I have a service/MOT booked - can I leave my car in the car park the day before?
We don’t own the car parks and therefore have no control over the security or any parking restrictions, so if you leave your car at a garage, it’s at your own risk.

Can you update the iDrive on a BMW?
We’re unable to update an iDrive following a service. However, your warranty isn’t affected. Digital service records are updated automatically within a couple of weeks of every service.
How can I transfer my Brakes4Life to my new vehicle?
If you want to transfer your lifetime replacement to a new car, you must bring your new car into your local Autocentre for a vehicle safety check within 30 days of buying it. You must remember to bring your V5 registration or bill of sale to show the date you bought the car and the change of ownership. You can see our full terms and conditions click here.
What fitting services do you offer and how much do you charge?
We offer a fitting service for a huge range of car parts. You can find a complete list on our Motoring Service pages where you can book a fitting.
Do you fit items which haven't been bought from Halfords?
We’re unable to fit any products that haven’t been bought at Halfords because of warranty issues. Some of the items we’re unable to fit unless they’re bought from Halfords include stereos, speakers, subwoofers, amplifiers, dash cams, sat navs, DAB add-ons, parking cameras, number plates, light bulbs, wiper blades, oils & amp additives, roof boxes and cycle carriers.
Do you offer windscreen repairs?
Yes. We offer windscreen repairs at most Halfords Superstores.
We’re able to repair chips that are less than 10mm in diameter in Zone A (the area covered by the wipers) and 40mm in Zone B (outside the wiper blade area). If we find any other chips that occurred at the same time as the damage, we’ll repair them at the same time for no additional fee.
All work is covered by a warranty for as long as you own the vehicle. The warranty can’t be transferred to another owner.
How much does Halfords breakdown cover cost?
Halfords breakdown cover provides comprehensive protection for cars, vans, and motorbikes. The price you’ll pay depends on the vehicle, so you’ll need to provide us with details to get a personalised price for your policy.
As well as peace of mind and protection, all policyholders qualify for exclusive Halfords benefits including half-price MOT and 10% off Servicing.
What does a Halfords diagnostic check include?

We use state-of-the-art car diagnostic test equipment to identify fault codes. Our trained technicians can advise on essential repairs to rectify the problem and get you back on the road as soon as possible.

What does a DPF Deep Clean do?
Our DPF Deep Clean is a professional workshop treatment that will clean out DPFs blocked with a build-up of soot. Before we get to work, we’ll inspect your DPF to identify the cause, then flush the filter to clean it out. We’ll test drive your vehicle for at least 20 minutes to ensure it’s running smoothly.
When should a tyre be replaced and not repaired?
Tyre repairs can extend the life of your tyres, but in some cases, a replacement could be the safer option. Before attempting a repair, we’ll inspect each tyre. If the tread depth is low (less than 1.6mm across the central 75% of the tyre), if there is evidence of deterioration or damage (like exposed cords or bead damage) or if a poor-quality repair has been carried out on the tyre previously, we’ll suggest a replacement, rather than a repair.
