How much does an air con recharge cost?

The cost of an air con recharge depends on the type of car you drive. There are two main different types of air con gas;

  • the older R134a gas
  • the new 1234yf gas.

Your car will require one or the other depending on the make and model.

You can find out what type of gas you need by either looking in your vehicle's handbook or entering your registration number online (around 60% of cars are currently supported). If you can't find which coolant gas you need, then you can always head into a Halfords store and ask, but you may need to re-book an appointment if there aren't any slots available.

Topping up your car with R134a gas costs £59 while topping up R1234yf costs £129. Meanwhile, our Air Conditioning Diagnostic costs £34.99.

Over 400 Halfords garages can carry out air con re-gas servicing for both types of gas and we have over 300 garages that can do the same for hybrid and BEV vehicles. To find out if your local garage can supply the gas you need, see our article here.
