What is a Turbo Trainer?

They are static devices that provide a form of resistance that replicates the feeling of the road. You hook your bike up to the turbo either by resting the rear wheel on a platform or connecting the chain to a drive unit. Turbo trainers allow you to vary the amount of resistance, which enables you to take control of your workout. You can simulate sprints, climbs or long, slow Sunday rides without leaving your own home. You can cycle for hours at a time or for just a few minutes. A turbo trainer gives you the freedom to ride when you choose – at any time of the day or night.

The three kinds of Turbo Trainers are Rollers, Wheel-on and Direct Drive. They offer different benefits depending on your ability and experience. Direct Drive trainers are the most sophisticated and are compatible with computer programs to give a more realistic ride.
